Net send works to machine name but not user?

Im having a problem where net send will not work to some pc's using
username - for instance I have two pc's on my desk, and if I do "net send
jamesb test" it pops up on one (W2000) but not the other (WXP). If I do the
send to the machine name of the XP box it comes up OK. Similar problem with
other computers (but some XP ones do work). The Messenger service is
running. Any thoughts?
