Net Send or Console Message

I can't do a Net Send Message nor Console message to
other clients from any of my XP Pro machines to another
XP Pro Machine using their computer name. I also can't
send a message to a XP client for my 2003 server and visa
versa. I can ping by name and IP both ways on each
machine though. Any ideas why. I keep getting a error
message about some recipients may not have recieved the
message or something of that nature.

If anyone has any suggestions please reply!

Thanks a lot!

Hi Scott,

Is the "Messenger Service" disabled on the recipient machine(s)?

Yep, enable the messenger service. I dont see what else
would be preventing it.

No it is set to enabled and is started. I would fgure if
I can send via IP address then it would have to be
started.

Hi Scott,

So you can send via IP?

Are the computers in a domain with DNS? WINS? NETBIOS?

No I can do that as well if I try a net send pos1.hh.hrm.lan "test".

This is very odd!

Hope you have another suggestion!

Thanks!

I tried one other thing as well to see what would happen. If I did a net
send to myself smicale.hh.hrm.lan ""test" I got the error of couldn't send
error 2273, but if I did the same thing and just did it as net send smicale
"test" then I got the message. If I try doing the same thing to pos1 doing
a net send pos1 "test" then I get error 2136. Hope this gives you more
info.

Thanks!
