Net command to disable appliance?

I have a NAS on our network which we use for scheduled backups overnight. It
stays on during the day, but becomes a drag when Windows wakes it up
regularly during file operations.

I would like to know if I can disable it through software, perhaps a Net
command from a DOS prompt, and then simply reenable it before it is called
into service each night.

Thanks...
