Hi,

First let me start off by listing my VMWare workstation setup:

HOST
Windows Server 2003 configured as a PDC

GUEST
Red Hat Linux 9

NETWORK
Bridge

Now here's the problem...
I'm kind of new to the Linux world and Red Hat for that matter, but
I'm sure one of you Linux gurus can answer this.

My Linux guest network configuration is set using DHCP since I run my
own DHCP server on my PDC. When my Linux guest first boots and loads
up it is able to automatically configured by the DHCP server, however,
when I try to ping my Linux guest it doesn't reply back. It also has
no connection to the public internet. All the IP settings are correct
when I check it with IFCONFIG.

So, I'm scratching my head here wondering WTF is going on. So I just
IFDOWN and IFUP and there we go! It works. I can ping it, and it can
access the internet. I check the IP settings and they are the same as
it was before I did the IFDOWN and IFUP.

Can anyone save me from the hassle of doing this each time I restart?

Thanks!

Post the *exact* output of the "ifconfig" command both before it works and
afterwards, when it does work - yes, you're a Windows user, but I MEAN it
when I say *exact*.

Even better would be if you learned to read the output of ifconfig, but
we'll start here...

In addition, post the output of '/sbin/route -n'. It may be that the
interface is going up correctly, but the routes aren't being configured
properly.
