D-Link has a AP/R product DWL-800AP+ it acts as a repeater and or an Access
point. The problem with an Access point is you need to run CAT5 or better
cable to it whereas a repeater just needs a power source. One thing though,
and I have been trying to get Microsoft to address this, the Microsoft MN520
(I do not know if any others have this problem or not) does not like to
associate to anything. so you could have a repeater sitting right next to
your computer and still it would try to use the base station.
