Sorry if this isn't the correct group. If not, please direct me to the
correct one.

Until recently we had a LAN of several Cisco 3500XL 100mbps switches
connected with 1 gbps fibreoptic uplinks.

A couple of months ago, we added a 3Com 3870 (3870#1) switch, also
connecting one of its dual-purpose ports to one of the Cisco's uplink
ports with a fibre optic link.

Now we wish to add a second 3com 3870 (3870#2) and we're wondering
exactly how to proceed. We purchased a 3com stacking cable to connect
the 2 3com switches together at high speed.

We've determined that when stacked together, 3870#1 will be the stack
master (lower MAC).

Our question is: once stacked, does it matter which of the 2 3870
switches has the uplink to the Ciscos?

Typically, no. The stacking cable usually provides enough bandwidth
that either switch can use the uplink. There may be, however,
some3Com-specific oddities of which I am not aware.

Regards,
Scott

I'm trying a new usenet client for Mac, Nemo OS X.
