Hi. I'm new to the group and new to wireless. I need to learn a lot more
than I know already, which is not much.
I have a network of 7 computers with a hub and cable router using 100 base
T. I just added a Netgear WG602 WAP to the system and put a PC card in the
laptop. Everything is working OK but here's what I'm trying to
learn/understand.
1. What is the max distance that you can go with 802.11.b/g and still meet
FCC regulations.
2. What does a better/higher gain antenna do for the system.
3. Do I need to put a higher gain antenna on the WAP and the PC card.
4. I have a relative that insists that 300 feet is max with 2.4 GH anything
and that to exceed this distance is in violation of FCC regs and will
subject the individual to heavy fines etc. What's the real truth and where
can I obtain facts on same.
I've done a lot of web searches but can really get bogged down with
thousands of hits on a search.
Any info is deeply appreciated.
