I am trying out a new cloud service gogrid.com. They are a hosting service
that allows you to create virtual servers on their end and then also have a
cloud storage system. My goal is to get rid of my local servers here at my
office and create a virtual Windows 2008 and 2003 servers on the gogrid.com
network. With go grid to connect to these virtual servers all you do is use
RDP. I want to use the virtual servers as my domain controllers and have my
local machines in my office authenticate through them. I also want my local
machines to use the cloud storage as their storage drive. I have a Cisco ASA
firewall at my office, but no router on the gogrid.com network that I can use
to make a VPN connection. What are my options so that I can use this server
the way I described above and give me the best data transmissions to and from?

Thanks
-scott

Hey Scott,

Michael from GoGrid here. You should probably look at something like
OpenVPN running on one of the servers. Just note though, that transfer-
speeds over any VPN are traditionally a bit slower than regular ones.

Also, we do have a Professional Services group that can help you with
a configuration or give you some advice.

Lastly, you can post a note to the GoGrid forums and ask there. There
may be others who can help you.

Thanks,

Michael,

Yes I did speak with one of your tech people but they sort of said that is
really out of their relm of support. Me as the end user is suppose to know
how to make that happen. So that is why i have posted in this MS forum, but
once again I am getting no love from them either. LOL!!!

If you want good transmission speeds, VPN is not the answer. But without a
router to act as the VPN endpoint it is not possible anyway.

This is all new technology, so you are not going to find anyone with
much experience to advice you. My guess is that IPSec and/or IPv6 are going
to be the answer to the problems of cloud computing, not NAT or VPN on IPv4.
