The other day I upgraded the firmware to version 1.50 in order to be
able to update the encryption from WEP to WPA.

I use an IBM T40 laptop with WinXP Pro and I also had to download the
WPA software update for Win XP, the Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B
Mini PCI Adapter driver (version 1.2.1.1), and IBM Access Connections
software update (version 2.73). I connect to the internet through
Earthlink Cable.

I was able to set up WPA and use it for a while, but it seems that
everyone once in a while the connection drops. I had problems when I
first bought this router, and a prior firmware update solved the
problem, so I'm guessing that Linksys is to blame with my current
wireless woes. I can only connect to the internet for a few minutes
before it disconnects. Other times, I can stay connected for a
half-hour or hour before I get booted offline. As you can imagine
this is very frustrating since it takes a while for the laptop or
router to "find" each other again and connect to the net. So much for
an always on connection.

Has anyone here had this problem? I searched Google but it seems most
people's problems with this router have been with earlier versions of
the firmware. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I try
to get an earlier version of the firmware and go back to WEP? Or does
this sound like a problem with my other software and/or hardware
drivers, etc?

Thanks!

I just got off the phone with linksys SR tech support/customer servers for a
similar problem. They almost said the V4 is the problem and they are going
to send me a V3 as this is my 2nd router with the same problem in 3 months.
Call there customer service not tech support and report the problem. btw
1.50 is not out in production yet and they will not support you using it
unless your on their list of people to have it. T

There are many, many customers who have unwittingly paid good money to
Linksys for the privilege of beta testing this unit. See

They should all write a letter to John Chambers and ask when Cisco is
going to start enforcing some quality control inside its relatively
new subsidiary. Cisco is even starting to put its own logo on Linksys
stuff, to the detriment of the logo's value.
