I bought an Intel(R) PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II (mbla3456) OEM, but
I really need the CD.

Any suggestions?

You may be able to download the needed files from the manufacturer's
website.

The trick is knowing exactly which of the nebulously titled and
described online files (of which I have a great number) are to be used
and for what. This card is pointedly described as unsupported by any
Xircom/Intel guidance. One assumes the CD would have it exactly right.

Been there, done that:

If you actually saw a place on Intel where the CD is offered for sale,
please post that URL.

Intel has ended support of discontinued cards:

MBLA3300 Intel PRO/100 CardBus II
MBLA3300PAK5 Intel PRO/100 CardBus II- 5 Pack
MBLA3300PAK20 Intel PRO/100 CardBus II- 20 Pack
MBLA3356 Intel PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II
MBLA3356PAK5 Intel PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II- 5 Pack
MBLA3356PAK20 Intel PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II - 20 Pack MBLA 3400
Intel PRO/100 CardBus II (RealPort)
MBLA 3400PAK5 Intel PRO/100 CardBus II (RealPort) - 5 Pack MBLA
3400PAK20 Intel PRO/100 CardBus II (RealPort) - 20 Pack MBLA 3456
Intel PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II (RealPort) MBLA 3456PAK5 Intel
PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II (RealPort) - 5 Pack MBLA 3456PAK20
Intel PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus II (RealPort) - 20 Pack
-----------------------------------------

This is not a matter of being too stupid to follow the stipulated
process. I could do that with my eyes shut and have tried every
suggested driver several times (even reformatting and reinstalling Win98
5 times to clear everything out and start over). There are details
which interfere with the normal process, and one would assume everything
necessary would be done properly if using the actual Intel CD.

One networking pro used several expletives to describe these combo
cards. Somebody has the CD. I need a copy.

since you have tried *many* different drivers ...have you looked in device
manager in 'safe mode' to see if you have multiple ghost devices installed
....this can cause problems sometimes ...esp. with combo cards..

I did not see any mention of downloading the original CD ...the only way to
know for sure would be to call there support line...sorry

Not that exactly, but I've had to reformat/reinstall win98 3 times in as
many weeks.

Juts now did the "safe" thing and see only the one - which is one
windows installed by default.

Is there any way to keep "safe" mode from trashing your desktop?

Jim,

Get this free utility. It's getting hard to find. If you have a
problem with the download I'll put it on my site.
(icon_restore.exe). Install it then right click My Computer and
choose save icon layout. If they ever get disorganized right click
it again and restore layout. Like after you have been in Safe Mode.
