I have a network setup in my house utilizing 2 routers, 3 computers, 2
XBoxes, and a cable modem. Presently, it has a balancing problem in
regards to downloading.
Layout
Main Router
Linksys WRT54GS v1.0 firmware 4.70.6
Set on first floor next to cable modem
Cable Modem
Motorola cable modem
Download speed of 4 Mbit
Upload speed of 256 Kbit
Secondary Router
Linksys BEFW11S4
Setup as expansion to the Main Router, routing functions are disabled
Has the 2 XBoxes connected to it
Was the previous router.
Computer A
Near Main Router
Wired Connection
Uses HTTP, BitTorrent, and Messenging Applications
BitTorrent is currently set to 45Kb upload rate.
Computer B
On first floor
Wired Connection
Uses HTTP, Web Browser Based games, and a few Messenging Applications
Computer C, the one I use
On Second Floor
Wireless G connection, has 54Mb connection at very good to excellent
signal condition
Uses HTTP, USENET, and Internet Gaming Applications(World of Warcraft)
Problem: World of Warcraft average latency is 1200 milliseconds.
Recommended is 250 milliseconds. Can achieve 50 milliseconds when
Computer A is offline.
My current design is that the first floor and basement devices can be
wired while the second floor devices would have to be wireless to save
the trouble of wiring an old house.
So far, the wired computers do not have connection slowdowns, just the
wireless computer. I need help to get a load balance to give the
wireless network its fair share of the bandwidth, and reduce gaming
application's latency. What should I do?
