Greetings and thank you for reading this!

I am installing an Ethernet adaptor PC Card (PCMCIA) on a friend's laptop
running Windows 98 - Not the 2nd edition. During the install, it stumbles on
2 missing files that should be in the c:\windows\options\cabs directory.

The files are.....
cb102.sys and net102mx.inf

Unfortunately, he has misplaced the Win98 CD and the files cannot be found
in the Microsoft.com Download section. Can anyone help?

Thank you kindly,
Cynthia-

I don't believe these are Windows 98 files, I believe you need the network
adapter files. Tell Windows to look in the directory where you downloaded
the files or on the floppy/CD with the files.

Thank you kindly, Richard, for the input.....

Actually, they are Win 98 **2nd Edition** files....I'm running the 1st
edition.

As for directing windows to the right directory to find the files....I have
done this and the files were not there (wrong eiditon)...and we have lost the
original OS disk - though they would not be there anyway since it is the
wrong edition.

These are network adaptor files....we are installing an Ethernet Adaptor PC
card on a laptop.

We really need to just find a place to get our hands on the two files
db102.sys and net102mx.inf

Any additional thoughts?
Fare thee well,
Cynthia-

Ah, no they aren't Windows 98 files - either First or Second Edition. They
are drivers from your network adapter manufacturer. I have extensively
searched the file names and they only appear in downloadable driver file
sets - not as part of the Windows 98 file set.

I can't thank you enough, Richard, for your persistence......

This is not looking good......If you don't mind, I would like to tell you
what happend so that you might be able to give a suggestion on a course from
here.....

I am installing a Linksys 10/100 Ethernet adaptor PC card (PCMCIA) in a
notebook running Win95. I used the manufacturer's install CD to install it
via the "Found New Hardware" Setup Wizard - the card says it is compatible
with Win 98..

Upon installation, the drivers were successfully installed....but it errored
twice with "file not found" and it asked me to insert the original Win 98
CD/disk. It was trying to copy the missing files from the
C:\Windows\Options\Cab directory into the C:\Windows\System...(or similar)
directory.

I called the manufacturer hoping they would simply have the files....and
they said they could be found on the 2nd edition Win 98 CD.

This is all I know.....And I am at a loss now. Any ideas on what I might do
from here? The notebook is not Win XP worthy or I would just upgrade the
OS.....problem solved.

Thank you again, most kindly, Cynthia-

Greetings and thank you Richard !

You provided me with the info I needed to resolve my problem quickly - I
returned to the manufacturer and found someone who knew something.

Without your info, I could have spent much more time on finding a solution.
I can't thank you enough for your kindness and generosity.

Fare thee well....

I searched the win98SE cab files and the nearest are net100i.inf and
cbe.sys. NOT what you need. Try

http://www.driverguide.com/guide/intro.htm

Pretty serious people. Had an account with them for > 2 years
and no spam yet. You will prob find what you need.
