I apologize for posting a second time about my problem,
but I am hoping putting the .vxd files in the header will
hasten a reply. I've noticed other posts in the recent
past from others here have mentioned this same problem
with other laptop installations of LAN cards

I have an IBM 380XD laptop, installed Win 98 2nd edition,
and when I then tried to install a 3COM Lan card
(3CCE589ET), it will not work, and device manager gave me
that code 2 diagnosis.

I've looked for help from any and all IBM, Microsoft, and
3COM help sites, but no luck yet, nor is there anything
relevant in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

There is an IR port on this laptop, and I have considered
removing it, and any other networking port, with Device
Manager. I am wondering of I need to force the NDIS
selection for this LAN card, rather than use the default
auto-select. Another datum I notice is that some of the
RAM appears to be unavailable, leading me to think some of
it is being reserved for the BIOS, in which case I would
like to know if this could be responsable, and if so how
to work around the problem.

I am hoping for some assistance, and perhaps others with
the same problem might find answers here as well.

Have you tried (re)downloading drivers & installing them? That's worth
it...you did NOT mention this step so I think you did NOT do this...Try the
following links:

http://www.network-drivers.com/drivers/79/79992.htm
http://www.network-drivers.com/drivers/21/21292.htm
http://www.drdriver.com/drivers/search-12-4-82.html
http://list.driverguide.com/list/company2/

Also check the link below:
http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/cgi...ms.html?nogifs

Check with 3COM to confirm which drivers U should use & also ask which other
model drivers support this card...Have you tried using another Network Card?
Chances are your Motherboard might be havinh problems or the interphase card
too...
