I have the Microsoft instructions for setting up the Network Client
Administrator tool for 2003. However, when I use that to create a bootdisk,
I have to enter the computer name during the gui setup. So to boot more
then one computer at the same time, I have to make more then one boot disk
or edit the system.ini file on the floppy each time before booting to it.
Can anyone tell me of a utility that will randomly input a computer name so
I don't have to change it manually all the time?

Jeremy

What I did with my TCPIP bootable network CDs, I made an entry in autoexec
to open system.ini upon boot so I can enter it. Bart's bootdisks also has an
interesting solution for this, which I have customized for my own use with
various prompts, depending on what I'm trying to accomplish, to also include
the ability to boot over 45 different NICs, (which I had to use a 2.88 meg
floppy emulation to create that CD), and have been using it extensively for
the past three years.

Thanks ACE. So what entry did you make to your autoexec? Something like
edit a:\net\system.ini?
And are you saying that you use BartPE because it has multiple nic drivers
built in? Or was it also something to do with the system.ini?

Exactly.

No, I did not use PE (preinstalled environment) for a Windows CD. I
strictly used a DOS network bootable, as outlined in the link I sent you. I
used it for DOS network connectivity, mostly for using Ghost, among other
things. To add the addtitional NIC drivers, I followed Bart's instructions
on how to add additional NIC drivers. They already have pre-created
system.ini files for each NIC. I just added them. Keep in mind, it's a
modular system and you just don't go adding the system.ini files. They are
pre-made using CAB files that you would compile the disk.

Instead of me explaining it, Bart's site has COMPLETE instructions. You'll
just have to do what I did, read through it to understand his method, then
customize it for your own needs. Believe me, it took me weeks to customize
it with my own criteria, including adding Ghost to the CD, with my own ghost
images, command lines, customized DOS batch boot menus with ghost executable
options, etc.

Read up on it. Once you learn it, you'll never go back to anything else.
