Hi, all! Running Win2k3 Server (latest SP and patches), with SQL Server 2000
and Sharepoint Services running on it.

Name resolution is failing. Config'd DNS servers are live and valid, and
other machines on network resolve fine (running from setting supplied by
DHCP server). Tried using DNS servers hard-wired on the machine, as well as
letting the DHCP server supply the DNS server IPs. No go. IP services work
fine (ping, tracert, ftp, etc) as long as IP addy's are used, so it's not a
basic TCP/IP issue. Uninstalled that annoying IE Enhanced Configuration
nonsense last night; seemed to be working fine at that point. Rebooted this
AM, and suddenly nothing. Name resolution via nslookup DOES work, but no
others. No proxy servers on network...

Any ideas? Thanks!
Jack

Jack,
I'm not exactly clear which of your computers DNS is not working for:
can all (ok, do 3+ of them work?) client ping each other by name?
can you ping the DNS server by name from a client?
can you ping a DC by name from a client?
what is the result of "netdiag" from the server you have problems with?

Hi

Need way more info about your setup , answers to previous posters qns would
be a start

Also if name resolution works via NSLOOKUP you could try just flushing the
client DNS cache as NSLOOKUP uses its OWN dns resolver

on client run ipconfig /flushdns

then if something isnt working, let us know exactly what you are trying to do
and how and I will try to asisst

Regards

S
