greetings

Have an up-and-running network between my PC (Win XP Pro) and wife's laptop
(XP Home).

For ages have been able to take copies of stuff from the laptop onto my
desktop, but now, some, but not all jpg files are giving a message "Cannot
open **** because the file is locked. Use properties in Windows Explorer to
unlock".

It seems to affect jpg files only, but only some of them.

It affects files I have previously copied, and have not been subsequently
opened or modified.

If I open properties in Windows Explorer I can't see anything about
locking/unlocking, and the files are not set to read only or anything like
that.

Any ideas?

I've seen this sort of thing with file system corruption (imminent
disk failure or memory problem?) but I expect there are other reasons
too.

Yeah, probably XP sucking again.

Try and get an exe file out of a zip file under xp SP2. I tried for an hour
and couldn't. Aparently it might have been malicious so MS chose not to let
me open it. Pfft!
