I promised to write to let you know about my agonies and ecstasies
after subscribing to Tiscali. After exactly one month, not the 10 - 15
days they say, the service is on. I had bought a 3com router already,
which is a good job as the free usb modem is still not here.
It seems to work ok, but nothing on the toolbar to say how fast it's
going...

Also, no filters on my phones yet, they seem to work, should i be able
to hear the BB? and will having no filters mess up the BB speeds?

They`re sounding super-efficient as ever... Regretting it yet ?

I think DUmeter has a trial version available - that`ll give you an up /
down speed, but you might want to try the speed test on adslguide.org.uk

I don`t think it`ll mess up the BB speeds but you may find the connection
dropped if someone picks up a phone...

hmm - what do you think the problem might be if the adsl light is on
but it doesn't connect, is it tiscali's fault or the house telephone
wiring, which is a bit convoluted.

Many thanks Richard

It could be a USB port problem depending on the modem (some take too much
and the computer will close the USB ports down). VIA and SiS chipsets
have been known to have problems - VIA more than most :-}

A combined router/modem might be a better way to go if you`re using such
a slow machine, as USB modems need processor time from the PC to work.

Sorry, I should have said, I am using a 3com612 router modem and a
netgear switch after reading in this NG that the free USB modems were
a BAD THING (tm). Good job really as the free modem and filters
haven't arrived yet...
