My SNR is dropping - what do I do?

Hello,

When I bought my router about 3 months ago, my SNR was 13dB downstream 18dB
upstream. Now, it's 10dB downstream and 16dB upstream. I suspect it will
continue dropping. Should I moan at Pipex now or do I have to wait until
the connection stops working?

Cheers.

Dave.

Pipex will almost certainly quite rightly ignore you.
IME, 10dB is enough for a very stable connection.
Not that pipex could do anything, as BT won't investigate 'faults' that
don't stop the line working.

Consider that for 5 hours of engineer time, investigating your line,
BT would probably have to pay well over a hundred quid (including wear and
tear on van, ...).
BT get (IIRC) about 4 quid a month for maintaining your line.
So, they really, really want to keep the number of visits below one every
decade or so.

Hmm, have the same problem, recently my line had lengthy nightime outage (BT
fiddling at the exchange ?) and I noticed that my SNR dropped from 18.5 to
11.5 and sometimes fluctuating down to 7.5. Thankfully the 1Mb/s connection
is still fine.
Any expert comments ?
Regards,
Martin

If it's working, why try to fix it?

Down to 9dB now. That's a 2dB drop in under a month and 4dB drop in 3
months. Guess it's just a matter of time now. Wonder what's degrading?

It may not even be your line.
I was wondering about a slowly degrading SNR, and eventually found the
filter to be the culprit.
I have to admit though, for 0.99, it isn't a bad filter...
