Main computer is Dell P4 Desktop with a second Dell PII is used as a file
server. 3rd Computer on the system is HP Athalon. All of these are
running Win XP Pro and hardwire networked through a Linksys BEFSR41 4 port
switch which also serves as the broadband Internet gateway through a cable
modem. Today added a MN-700 connected to the switch and set to access point
mode, talking to my laptop through a MN-720 adapter - laptop is Dell PIII
running Win2K. Now experiencing the strangest behavior when the wireless is
online. When working at the main desktop I can use the My Network Places
tool to browse to the other computers, either hardwired or wireless. I can
drill down from the opening "Network Places" screen to see the shared
folders and their contents on all the networked computers. But after
opening folders etc, trying to use the back button (left navigation arrow)
on the Win Explorer/My Computer screen to return to the top level Network
Places display locks up the explorer application with an "application not
responding" error, but only in the last step from the first level folders
back up to the root My Network Places display. Taking the MN-700 offline
and rebooting the main desktop returns the network places tool to full
functionality, able to browse down and back up the directory tree without
diffculty. The lockup occurs regardless of whether the computer being
browsed is one of the hard wired computers or the wireless connected laptop
if the MN-700 is online and talking to the laptop. But if the laptop is not
online, one can browse normally to the other PCs even with the MN-700
powered up. Connecting the laptop with a standard wired Ethernet connection
also does not cause the problem to occur and all members of the network can
be browsed normally.

Anyone seen any similar situations and/or have any ideas what's going on?
