My Linux doesn't use DNS protocol from a Windows server

Hello all,

I'm work with a company which has a LAN with a DNS Windows server and
my Linux distrib seems not to use the DNS to find IP adresses. I so
have to write names and IPs into /etc/hosts to match it. The DNS server
adress is available in /etc/resolv.conf.

Would you know if I must do something with Linux or if there is a
Windows server manipulation to use DNS ?

Thanks.

No. Your linux system should work fine with a Windows DNS server. Your
/etc/resolv.conf file should contain the line:

nameserver 192.168.1.1

if the DNS server is at 192.168.1.1

What distribution are you running? And, if DNS doesn't work for you,
post the contents of your /etc/nsswitch file and the output of a
"netstat -r" command.

Hello and thank you for the answer,

In fact, the problem was that Ubuntu automatically wrote domain.com as
domain in resolv.con instead of country.domain.com, I don't know why.

I asked the network administrator and modified the resolv.conf, it's
now OK.

Thanks again and have a nice day.
