My Documents Redirection problem

Hello
status:newbie

I have W2000 Professional desktop, WXP Professional Laptop and W2003
Server in the network. I can have the same User accessing the Server
from both the desktop and laptop. I want the contents of My Documents
folders on both computers to be synchronized to the designated shared
folder in the server.

I have configured My Documents Redirection on the server. I can get the
User's My Documents folder on the desktop to synchronize, but I cannot
see anything from the User's laptop's My Documents folder on the server.
I tried giving the user a different account/name to use to access from
the laptop. I still don't see any files from users on the laptop.

The laptop can otherwise connect and access files on the server.

Appreciate any ideas

Thanks
K

I don't know the answer to the problem offhand but refer to the two links
below for tips on folder redirection including how to use gpresult to verify
the application of Group Policy which probably a good place to start. Group
Policy problems are often related to improper dns configuration on a domain
member computer and the support tool netdiag can be helpful in checking
that. Domain computers must only point to AD domain controllers running dns
in the domain as their preferred dns servers. --- Steve

OT reply - offline files is not my favorite thing in the world. I've seen
way too many problems - including data loss - with it. for laptops I use
SecondCopy 2000 from www.centered.com to sync data - it's inexpensive and
works well.

Thank you for your response

I still can't seem to resolve this. I've checked Group Policy, saharing
and security settings. I have the same domain User accessing the server
from the laptop (XP Prof) and desktop (W2000 Prof). Because the My
Documents redirect works from the W2000 desktop I am assuming that the
settings are ok on the server side. It does not work for the laptop.
I've checked the DNS setting from laptop, I can do remote desktop
connection to the server, as well as access files on the server.

Is it allowed that the My Documents folders from two different machines
but for the same User (of the domain) can be shared/synchronized to that
Users shared folder on the server??

Thanks for any suggestions
K
