In upgrading from a mixed manufacturer 802.11b network to a Netgear
(since G is still draft, didn't want to mix equipment manufacturers)
802.11g network, I compiled the following transfer rates for
comparisons (all numbers are in kilo-bytes with WEP enabled in G only
mode unless otherwise noted):

B far B close G close (without G far Test
WEP/with WEP)
===== ======= ================ ===== ====
148 170 1046/963 779 Put 14MB file
89 100 1095/979 873 Get 14MB file

I have a WGR614, WG511, WG311, and my old machine is still using a
MA301/MA401 802.11b combo. I am running the 614 in B+G mode now
because I chose not to upgrade the old computer. This has reduced
throughput by 20-30% between the two G nodes. In spite of all this,
my throughput speed is 4x or GREATER than my old wireless network!
Woohoo! :-) Although I still have problems with the wireless cards
and router periodically stopping, I am EXTREMELY happy with the
increased throughput!

:802.11g network,

802.11g is no longer draft. It was approved June 12, 2003.
