I've got my AP and computer configured for 4 WEP keys. While I can change
the default key in the AP, I apparently don't have to change it in the
computer. Are the 4 keys tried in rotation, until a match is found?

tnx jk

Hi James.

AFAIK, when you change the default key on the AP, the change wont be
reflected on the station OR in the PC, unless or otherwise you have an
application / software on the AP to deliver the same keys to the
stations (if AP runs 802.1x Module). You will need to manually
configure the same key on the same slot on the PC as well to have the
decryption working.

All 4 keys are the same on both ends. I was referring to selecting on of
the 4 on the computer and a different one on the wireless router. It
doesn't seem to require the same key be selected as default on both.

Incidentally, I wrote a very short script that used md5sum to generate keys.
Keys generated in that manner are safer than word generated keys, as
they're not likely to sucumb to dictionary attacks.
