Hi!

We have set up a wireless link based on one Dlink DWL2000AP+ and 2
USRobotics 5450 APs that goes like:

Internet
..
..
Router--eth--Dlink(AP mode) . . . (1)USR Repeater . . . (2)USR Repeater
192.168.0.1 192.168.0.6 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.17

The problem is: Using both a laptop with an USR card and a PDA with a
buffalo card,
* you get connection out through the router near the Dlink and the USR(1).

BUT when connected to the USR(2) you can:

* See USR 2, connect to it, ping it.
* Ping USR 1, connect to the web config of it.

But neither see/ping Router nor Dlink AP. So you are unable to reach
the internet.

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Thanks,

Ramon

1. Is USR(2) repeating USR(1) or DLink ? It should be the D-Link DWL-
2000AP+

2. I have experience of using other D-Link kit in Repeater mode. A
repeater becomes a transparent device and cannot be connected to
wirelessly - only directly by Ethernet. So I'm somewhat confused by
the symptoms you see...

3. The D-Link USR-5450 is the *same* device as the D-Link DWL-2000
(they are both the Global Sun Technology GL2454AP). Confusingly the
DWL-2000AP+ is a *different* device based on a different wireless
chipset. Try restricting it to a speed and modulation technique
common to all the devices. Avoid the 33 and 22 Mbit/s speeds.

4. Ensure that SSID is broadcast and is the same as the AP.

5. Ensure that each device is positioned well apart, preferably where
the signal from each of the other devices is fairly weak.
Incidentally, what area are you trying to cover?

6. Check with Network Stumbler that each of the 3 devices (AP + 2
repeaters) can be seen and identified by its BSSID = MAC address

7. My experience shows that a repeater may stop working in the
absence of traffic. Try using a utility (Mortens Host Alive or
similar) to regularly ping the router through each wireless device

Hope this helps
