Multiple PCs on BT Broadband Basic

BT state that BT Broadband Basic (£19.99 per month) is not suitable
for connecting multiple PCs and that for multiple PCs BT Broadband
(£24.99 per month) is required.

Does anyone know why this is? Will BT Broadband Basic not work with
multiple PCs or is it just that it is not recommended in view of the
1Gb monthly usage allowance?

Multiple PC's work fine on BT Broadband Basic.

They don't recommend it partly due to the 1Gb monthly usage allowance but
also as they supply a USB modem free with this service.

With all their other ADSL offerings they now give a ethernet modem
(including 1 USB port) as standard - which makes sharing easier.

Sunil

Sounds like a marketing idea - I think Claranet also has something about
only being suitable for 1 PC in their FAQ about this. Certainly with a
small usage limit, you could easily be in trouble with just 1 PC (I get
90 MB AN HOUR on a radio stream, so 15 hours exceeds a 1 GB limit!)

There was mention some time back for an ISP being able to detect if one
was using multiple PCs sitting behind a router, but you should find no
big problem sharing an ADSL connection with lots of PCs if you wanted
(usage cap permitting). A small firm near me has two ADSL connections
(one used solely for e-mail), one to provide browser access for a dozen
or more staff, but none is running a data-hungry application to fill the
ADSL connection. You could run into trouble if there is a problem, so
do keep the free USB modem... only good thing on some of these deals
is low/free setup... Also with BT Broadband watch for restrictions in
sending e-mail with your own domain. Worth checking into the mail (+
news) account from Claranet at 9.99/year www.clara.net/btbroadband and
send mail on port 2525... Hope it works out well... Peter M.
