I've heared it's possible to give a machine multiple computer names
by changing something in the local registry of that machine. Does
someone knows how to do this?

thanks in advance for any help,

If you are referring to DNS names, you can configure a CNAME record within
DNS that will allow a single machine to be reached by multiple DNS names.
For example, you can have a machine called "server1.mydomain.com" that is
functioning as a web server, so you can create a CNAME of "www.mydomain.com"
so that both names will resolve via DNS.

records used anymore
