If you have an MN-100, MN-500 or MN-700, the router has a
built-in firewall -- but don't disable it -- forward ports.

First, you need to know which ports your game needs -- this
is typically a number or a range of numbers, and often it
also says whether it is TCP or UDP (probably your friends
know the port numbers; otherwise check the game doc or the
game web site).

You also need to assign a static IP to your PC. Open the
properties dialog box for your Network Connection, and go
to TCP/IP. Enter 192.168.2.2 into IP, mask 255.255.255.0,
DNS and gateway 192.168.2.1.

Then, run IE and go to 192.168.2.1. This is the router
configuration. The default password is admin. Go to the LAN
screen and change the DHCP range to start at 192.168.2.3.

Finally, go to the Security/Port Forwarding, and select
persistent port forwarding. Enter the port number or port
range in the boxes (repeat the numbers for incoming and
outgoing), select TCP or UDP (if you don't know which,
enter 2 lines, one for each), and 192.168.2.2 as IP. Repeat
this for all the games that need it.

Your friends you'll use the WAN IP that is listed on the
Home page of the router (the ISP IP they were using before
you got the router).

When i goto my network prop. and change the ip and mask
and stuff my internet doesn't work
and i did all the ports and everything i still can't
connect to another ip and no one can connect to me. The
ports just dont seem correct im tryig to do it for Empire

Use persistent port forwarding. Same ports for inbound and
outbound, in general.

Run Command Prompt, and enter ipconfig /all
Let us know what you got back.

Verify the settings on TCP/IP. IP=192.168.2.2,
mask=255.255.255.0, DNS and gateway = 192.168.2.1.

Check that the LAN screen on the router. Is the DHCP start
range 192.168.2.3?

The port forwarding won't work until you get the IP changed
for your computer, since it expects the PC to have the IP
192.168.2.2

Ports for Empire Earth: UDP 33334 und TCP 33335
Check <http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/ports.htm>

You changed the settings on the Network Connection for the
wireless network, right? On some systems there are multiple
Network items, one for dialup, one for wired connection,
and one for wireless.

To get the IP, use IE and go to the router at 192.168.2.1.
On the router Home page it says WAN IP address. That's the
IP your friends use to connect to you from the Internet.

However, if you have the MN-700 and your friends bring
their computers to your home, then they will use the
192.168.2.2 IP (because they are no longer connecting
through the Internet, but through your LAN).

Go to the router and on the first page, get the WAN IP
address. That's the address your friends use.
