hello,
I'm trying to set-up a linux box (redhat 9 or mandrake 9.1) for
streaming some multicast traffic (video and data) but I need to enable
the streaming only if there are at least one listener who joined the
group (this because I don't want to flood the local LAN with unwanted
traffic).
I tryed some multicast router (mrouted, pimd, zebra/zpimd) but with no
success: the traffic (generated internaly from the pc) is always sent
over the LAN.
Now I would like to try to use a router just to retrieve router-side
igmp information (i need only to know the multicast groups that have at
least one listener joined to the group) and use these informations to
wtite a program (C, c++, java, perl, etc..) that choose whether or not
to send multicast traffic.
I have read that the snmp capable version of mrouted has an utility
(mstat) that can print the igmp table, but I cannot figure out how to
compile it under linux and I cannot find any documentation/info over the
net.
Does anyone has successfully compiled mrouted with snmp on linux? How?
Does anyone knows any other software that could fit my needs?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you very muck,
Roberto Politi
