Hey all

I was wondering if anyone knew of such a piece of software to 'broadcast'
an mp3
song file or playlist to multiple networked pc's all connected to amps in
various
rooms of the house wirelessly for true multiroom audio from a main console
machime. Im sure such software must exist but i just cant find it and
certainly dont have the programming ability to create such an idea.

If noone knows could you reccomend a good NG to ask?

TIA
Tom

http://www.linksys.com/press/press.asp?prid=143 might be something to check
out.

I heard someone talking about Windows media player streaming their mp3's
over a network.

I experimented with this a while back with a wired network. Problem I had
was that the music was out of sync. Ok in far separated rooms, but
if you could hear more than one, it was a disaster. Even if you did
manage to get it synced up, it wouldn't stay. Need to have a way to
lock the playback clocks together.

That's too bad. Must be something with the buffer? Can you shut off the
buffer?

Look for many products like this to appear later in 2004 - they were all
over the recent Consumer Electronics show. Some were using 802.11g and
802.11a to actually stream HDTV video wirelessly through the house.
Panasonic was one of the names I saw. Of course, those were nice controlled
tradeshow demos, the real world is a different story...

You should check www.avsforum.com - lots of home theater buffs there that
know all about this stuff.

There are a few bits of hardware to do this - Turtle Beach Audiotron and
others... http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/prod...roducthome.asp

I can network stream audio from my iPod using Anapod Explorer / Xtreamer...
http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/ works extremely well and lets me
listen to music in the workroom from the iPod in the living room.
Has a nice interface with playlists, search etc....
http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/featpw.php#
Fabby bit of software (if you have an iPod - or some other mp3 players Rio,
Nomad etc) and is far superior to iTunes for Windows.

Should work over wireless too but I haven't tried this yet.

Windows Media Server. Current version is IIRC 9 but I used v.7 because
it has less hardware requirements. You can use it with video too.
Free download from www.microsoft.com
I was surprised how easily i got it to work.
