MS Exchange 2003 - mails not getting through

Hi all

I hope you can help me here cos I am really going nuts!!.

I just setup my new exchange 2003 server. I am running it on a domain
controller and its integrated with active directory. I also setup the server
as a primary DNS server. I just joined 3 PCs with this domain and all DNS
records are OK and I have all alias host records with the correct IP. Ping
is fine from server to clients and also vice versa.

Problem is that although I can configure outlook on all PCs with username
and everything, the emails I am sending between each other is not arriving.
Also outlook is not giving errors...emails just wont arrive in any of the
mailboxes! Is there something I can check to see why they are not getting
through??

Thanks a lot !

Do you see them in Sent items folder? You may also want to check the queue
in Exchange server.

Hello Paul,

Do your clients use only the domain internal DNS server? DO you have created
an MX record in DNS?

I would recommend to post this to an exchange NG:
microsoft.public.exchange.admin
microsoft.public.exchange.misc
microsoft.public.exchange.setup

Best regards

What "alias" records? There are no required alias records,...so I have no
idea what you have done there. You will not use or need an MX record for
your Clients. The MX records is only so that other mail servers out in
"Internet-Land" can find your mail server in order to send mail to you,...so
the MXRecords will only reside on your ISP's DNS or whoever is the
Authoritative DNS Holder for you "Mail Domain".

Outlook needs (should) be running as an Exchange Client and not as an
SMTP/POP3 Client.

Make sure Exchange is properly configured to accept/handle mail for you
"Mail Domain",...this has *nothing*to do with you AD Domain.

Make sure the Recipient Policy is correctly configured for the correct Base
Email Address for the Mail Domain (eg. @mymaildomain.com),...it often
defaults to the same spelling as the AD Domain which is often *wrong*.

It will typically look like one of these choices:

%1g%(E-Mail Removed) = First IntialLastname = ((E-Mail Removed))
%g%(E-Mail Removed) = FirstnameLastname = ((E-Mail Removed))
%1g.%(E-Mail Removed) = Firstname.Lastname = ((E-Mail Removed))
