Hi.
Just added a new workstation with XP Pro to a W2K SRV AD domain with a
single server. System event logs on server shows the following for the new
XP client, which repeat about every 60 to 72 minutes.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MRxSmb
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8003
Date: 6/18/2004
Time: 8:45:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: FS1
Description:
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
CASPIAN that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport NetBT_Tcpip_{A6EFBA13-5260-4B31-B. The master browser is stopping
or an election is being forced.
Data:
0000: 00 00 00 00 03 00 4e 00 ......N.
0008: 00 00 00 00 43 1f 00 c0 ....C..À
0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0018: 8e 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Ž.......
0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........

FS1 being the Server, and Caspian being the new XP client.
The server is DHCP and DNS server as well. There is no WINS server on the
domain. The other XP clients don't have this entry in the server logs. The
local XP logs on Caspian show all normal.
I removed Caspian from domain, dumped computer account from server, rejoined
domain. Same results.
This is supposed to occur if there are two servers on the domain fighting
for master browser rights. But why a XP? This client is fully updated
through Windows Update.

Thanks for any feedback.
Fred

The simplest remedy is just to stop the computer browser service on the
workstation. From Admin Tools | Services , select computer browser service.
Stop it and set it to manual so it doesn't autostart on bootup.
