Hi there !

Is it possible to make realtime mpeg-4 encoding

on a nvidia Geforce graphic card GPU, ( linux pc system)

We wan´t to stream gpu´s framebuffer content in mpeg-4 over an ethernet
lan.

Is it possible to get such a gpu with a onboard nic for a better performance
?

with compliments

martin

I think you're a bit confused there - you can't get a -GPU- with an
onboard NIC - they are two separate things, different parts of the
computer. You CAN get a -video grabber- card which does MPEG encoding,
but it's unlikely that it'll do 4 - it's been a while since I looked
into such things, but I think that for some reason, they stopped at 2.
The framebuffer is of the -video card's-, not the GPU - that is a
processor, similar to your Athlon or Pentium or whatever, it uses the
framebuffer to draw the image to.

Look into vlc - www.vlc.com , and see whether it's what you need.

As a favour, in return, could you let me know what you did, and how you
went? (what you tried, what you didn't, and which ones worked?).

Eh - please correct, I see the site is not up, or it changed its URL -
it's www.videolan.org .

Let me know how it went!
