Hi!
I have an old server with Windows server 2003 A.D installed. My network
consists of 30 users with 2 MFC's on static IP. I have DHCP n DNS
configured.

We have purchased a new HP server with Win2k3.

Can anyone please let me know step-by-step instructions on how to migrate
all the settings and data from old server to new one, or if possible help
with exact link on how to go about it?

I am browsing the web but mostly getting information on migration from
win2000 to win2k3, but not from old server to new.

Quick help is deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hari

i'm going to assume this old server is the only domain controller.

1) make the new server as part of the domain
2) install dns and dhcp
3) install AD
4) move dhcp data to new server

How to move a DHCP database from a computer that is running Windows NT
Server 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 to a computer that is
running Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325473/en-us

5) look at the dns zones on the new server to verify they exist. if not,
make sure all zones are AD integrated and not primary on the old server
6) if there are file shares, they need to be moved to the new server

Microsoft File Server Migration Toolkit 1.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

7) update dhcp config on new server for any ip changes for the new server
8) move fsmo roles

How to view and transfer FSMO roles in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324801

9) run dcpromo on the old server to remove AD
10) remove the old server from the domain

i would suggest letting some time pass between steps 8 and 9 - say a week or
so to make sure everything is running well before you remove the old server

Backup to external store and restore to new server. Why not?

ahh yes i knew i was missing something...i would put this after step 8 on my
list.
this article doesn't mention 2003 but steps are the same; would recommend
allowing some time to pass for replication between steps 5 and 6

Hi!
Thank you all for the reply. I took note of the following and will implement
on test environment first.
Yes, the old server is just the domain controller. I will go thru the
following articles and get back to you if any problems encountered.
Thanks a lot all, I appreciate it.
