moving to Sky, NTL don't care

I get my satellite TV from Sky and my broadband from NTL. I also have
a BT phone line.

The NTL package I have is the unlimited 10Mb/s offering for £34.99/month.
This was a little pricey at at time I took it out, but containable.

Since I have got my code from Sky (see earlier posts), I thought I'd
give NTL a call to see if they were doing any price matching or good
competitive deals to stop me leaving.
Surprisingly they don't appear to have any sort of marketing position
at all on this. While they are still happy to take the monthly subs
from me, they didn't have any reductions/offers to retain me as a
customer.

Considering the amount of publicity that Sky have been giving their
BB initiative, I'd've thought that being Sky's competitor in TV and
BB, NTL would have a strategy, not just "close the door on your way out".

Strange.

Pete

Did you call the retentions number (0800 052 0243)?

I ask this because many many people are getting very good offers when
they tell them about the various deals that are around.

Not explicitly, I went through their menu system. I'll try the
retentions number tomorrow - thanks for the tip.
I was somewhat surprised with the nonchalance expressed by the chappie
I spoke to when I said I was planning to switch.

A new pricing package is to be announced imminently which will include
cableTV, broadband, landline and mobile.
Might be worth a short wait ?
Not sure if retentions will have the details yet.

I'm with cable due to the fact that I can't bear $ky..
Also the fact that I really love the 10Mbit broadband system. It always runs at
10Mbit. I find if it's slower it's due to the server I'm downloading off.

Not failed my once and I've had the line for years -way back when even dialup
was monthly.(before freeserve)

I work for NTL:Telewest, and the reason NTL wont 'price match' is due to
the whole change of service that they are going through.

Once NTL:Telewest becomes Virgin, They will offer new packages & prices,
but until then, there will be no change to price im afraid..

Hope this helps

But will they expand cable coverage? Doesn't seem likely...

Give retentions a call - I got 10Mb/s for 17.99/Month for a year (about
four months ago now) You _do_ have to threaten to leave tho

There are plans to expand the coverage, but not on the same scale as was
back in the 1990s
I don't get involved in that side of the business, but Id assume they'll
target high density areas, or large new builds.

Or even upgrade the old Analogue in Sunbury on Thames to digital.
Currently they don't support broadband at all and its not exactly out in the
sticks.
