I have a large network with two domains.

In mixed mode, one domain was set up for the new Windows 2003 servers and
the old NT 4 domain still exists as a legacy from years gone by.

Soon, I will get rid of the old NT 4 domain by implementing new Windows 2003
servers.

In the past, I have performed the following procedure:

- Made a note (manually) of user settings.
- Changed the domain on the workstation and rebooted.
- On reboot, logged into the new domain and recreate desktop, mail settings,
mapped drives etc.

My problem is that I need to move the workstations from the old domain to
the new domain without having to:

- recreate the desktop
- recreate the HKCU registry settings
- remap the drives
- etc

i.e. I don't want to have to recreate the profile for each user/workstation.

Is there any easy, reliable, consistent way to move workstations from the
old to the new domain simply?

TX in advance.

Maurice

One trick I've used in the past when switching domains for clients is to run
some commands in the login script.

rename Default User folder to Default User.bak. ( or similar )
copy logged on users folder to a new Default User folder

Do the defult domain name switching.
log off and back on to the new domain

A new profile will be created from Default User which in fact is a copy of
the old profile.

Finish by renaming Default User.bak to Default User

When done correct in a script this really works nice. I've moved up to 2000
users this way twice.
