I have w2k member server (allen_nt1) of the domain allen_dc. My new member
server will be on the same domain. I want to move all the shares to the new
server with the same share name and permissions. I also need to move about 25
printers where I need to keep the same share name. when this is all done the
old computer will be given a new name and the new computer will get ip and
name of the old one. The idea is that when this is done and user come in
after the weekend the new server works just like the old one did.

Can some one please give some help or pont me to some microsoft doc that
talk about this.

thanks
Joe

#1 For the File Shares:
Microsoft File Server Migration Toolkit (Windows Server 2003):
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...ocs/msfsc.mspx

File Server Migration Toolkit not only migrates files and their associated
permissions (both NTFS and shared folder permissions), it also maintains UNC
paths of files after they are migrated to a new server. Alternatively, for
the Share migrations, follow these steps:

1) Use Robocopy from the Resource Kit to copy files/folders and retain
permissions (or restore the data back from a backup)
2) Before moving Shares to a new server, open the Registry Editor and
navigate to
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServe r\Shares
3) Highlight the key and select the Registry | Save Key menu option. At the
'Save Key" dialog box, provide a unique name
4) When the new server is ready rebuild the Shares via the Registry |
Restore menu option import the key into the new registry
5) The Shares will be available again immediately provided they have the
same path

#2 For the Printer Shares:
To facilitate migration of printers to a new print server, use printmig.exe.
This version below doesn't overwrite the existing print queues on the
destination server.

#3 For the server "Name switch":
