Move DASL from one line to another

Hi all

We want to move an existing Demon ADSL connection from one existing
telephone line to another line at the same property.

Are there any pitfalls?

Is there any 'ISP speak' for this sort of request?

We would not be bothered by a small interruption of service.

It will take 5-7 days but BT will generally ADSL cease and activate on
the same day, so you will only be without tinternet for a few hours.

It will cost you or the ISP to do it (around £50), if the ISP is willing
to pay they will most likely recover the costs by signing upto a new 1
yr contract.

Ted.

Thanks Ted,

That sounds just the job. I must say that when Demon took over my own BB
contract from my previous ISP it went as smooth as silk, minimal
interruption in service, just had to power cycle the router.

Did this with Demon mid December. Phone call to helpdesk said "cease &
reprovide - 15 days". Email to tech support said "no break in service" and
provided the CBUK number with recommendation that I pass that on to BT when
requesting the renumber. Tech support would not identify him/herself by
name. But he/she was right - seamless transition.

Obviously necessary that both phonelines are on the same exchange, otherwise
"cease & reprovide" is the only option.

Changing from one ISP to another on the same line is not the same
thing as moving adsl from one physical line to another

I realise that Jim, in my original post I mentioned that the renumber
would be with Demon. In my limited earlier experience when I moved ISP
to Demon they were very efficient; so with a bit of luck they will
handle this job with similar ease.

I wish you luck, because I see it as being a bit more likely that someone
will "mess up" with this type of change (compared with the relatively
simple change from ISP "a" to ISP "b" under software control, with
no need for human intervention at the exchange/home). Sadly.

Fingers crossed then!

If this is going to cost you money and you are not moving the
telephone numbers I would recommend getting a new service up and
running on the new line before cancelling the old service.

Hi John,

That's *exactly* the conclusion I came to today.
