I have googled for hours and I can't seem to find the solution to my
problem. I have a netware server that I need to get data off of. I have
tried various mount commands(mount, ncpmount, etc...) to do so. All of them
ask for a SERVER. I try localhost and it gives me that it can't find the
server. All of the google entries I have found give instructions on how to
do it remotely but nothing for booting off a live CD. I am using Knoppix
and all I need to do is mount these harddrives. Does anyone have a good
lead or perhaps the answer? TIA.

I mount from a NetWare 4.1 server that is on the network. Is that
what you want to do? If so, why the FSCK are you trying localhost?
That isn't the server's name!

If you have put the NetWare drive(s) into your linux box, you have
made a mistake. AFAIK, linux (or any other non Novell OS for that
matter) does not know how to mount NetWare volumes directly.

The setup used is ncpfs-2.2.0.17 patched with ncpfs_largekeys.patch
and configured with --disable-nls --disable-mount-v2 --with-catgets

I can't recompile that now because it requires an old gcc but it still
works for me to modprobe ipx and ncpfs and then login to the server.
I'd offer to make the files available to you, but with knoppix I think
you're SOL.

Maybe you could
boot netware
boot win
login
copy files
share the copy directory
SMB mount the win share
copy the files...

It would probably indicate that the OP has a messed up /etc/hosts file. Many
people don't seem to understand the entries there in.

I don't believe Linux can mount a Netware volume in any way *except* over
the network using the standard tools like ncpmount. Meaning, Netware ( or
a Netware emulator ) needs to be running on a different machine and you
mount the volume over the network...Like you would do with nfs of smbfs.

I would start looking here for tools :
http://www.netwarefiles.com/volume.htm

This one in particular looks promising :
http://www.portlock.com/linux/linux_boot_cd.htm

There used to be a ghost for netware, and I there are a couple other
Netware disk/volume tools out there that may do what you want, but they
may or may not be free. Most I've seen were dos/windows based though.

All of the google entries I have found give instructions on how to do it
remotely but nothing for booting off a live CD. No, I am booting off a live
CD. I don't want to do it over the network. The NetWare server is not
operational.

There is no linux box. I am booting off a live CD.

Maybe I could if the NetWare server was operational. The OS is FSCKED.

I know plenty well what the hosts file does. Can you really find me someone
that doesn't understand what the hosts file is after they experienced it?

Then about all you can do is to build another NetWare OS on a new HD,
putting the drive(s) from the non functional setup into it as
additional volume(s). You can mount the old volume(s) from within the
running new NetWare.

There are data recovery services, but they are usually prohibitively
expensive.

If you have a backup, perhaps you can find someone who will restore it
so you can grab the files from that.

If you *really* want help, you should post a complete description of
the problem and the desired outcome.
