We have a linux machine with big disk space, need to work on solaris
5.8.

I am wondering whether could mount linux disk to solaris 5.8, I need to
write on linux disk from solaris.

Thanks.

Head over to www.tldp.org and look for the NFS (net work
filesystem) howto. This should get you going exporting the fs
from linux and mounting it on the solaris box. Make sure your
user UID/GID are the same on both.

Welcome to the wonderful world of unix computing.

Good luck

Assuming you're talking about sharing over the network, just use nfs,
unless there are performance or security issues. The NFS HOWTO is a bit
dated, but should still be pretty accurate. Configuring the Solaris nfs
client will be similar, but may have some differences; you should find
Solaris docs for that.

Be aware that there's an issue with NFS between a Solaris client and Linux
server. Solaris NFS uses the "near-POSIX" ACLs in its NFS. This was
available in 2.4 Linux kernels (ie. Redhat Enterprise 3) but has only
recently started appearing in 2.6 kernels. I think that Fedora Core 4 had
client support but not server support...but I'm not sure.

W/o this support, the Solaris ACL commands will not work when operating
upon files stored via NFS on a Linux server.
