Is it possible to have a broadband connection to a laptop in a motorhome
and if so how?

TIA Neil

Wirelessly from the house you've parked outside of..?!

Seriously you will need a wired connection of some sort, unless you go the
very expensive satellite route.

Umm, WiFi and park near a hotspot? Satellite broadband *might* work
using a mobile as the uplink, you'd have to check but it's not a cheap
option and you'd have to aim the dish every time you parked up.

The nearest option you would have would be to use a mobile 3G data card.
It's not exactly broadband <400Kbps but its the best options available.

Unlimited tariffs are around £40 a month I think.

I have used my Laptop using 3g It's OK for emails and basic web browsing but
once you get to trying to upload Pictures it seems a bit slow! Also 3g only
covers about 75% of normal GSM coverage so when you aren't in a 3g area it
slows down to (at the best) dialup speeds thru basic GPRS. So unless you are
in or near a main town forget it
And it can be expensive, remember to switch off all auto-updates as a 1 meg
update for your antivirus will cost a couple of quid!
Remember the Mobile phone companies have found a way to make some money as
mobile phone calls have come down in price!!

Satellite systems need a landline as an uplink, unless you have the systems
fitted to the round the world yachts.... now, they are really expensive!!

Probably the best of both worlds are a wireless network card if you are near
a hotspot there are a few free ones (hotels tend to be rip of prices!!) and
a mobile 3G phone (most have built in modem) and at least you can use it as
a phone as well and on contract it won't cost you much to buy.

My experience is it's actually a lot less than 75% in practice. Major
cities is OK but outside it's very patchy

"Unlimited" packages (actually about 1Gb average/month) come in around
£45/month

They are not that expensive for phone up/satellite down links and you
can use a mobile phone for the up side of that. Bidirectional satellite
is expensive and in both you have to consider latency which makes is
fine for continuous stream data but crap for eg gaming.
