OK, just suddenly bringing up Nildram with no context like "I'm with Nildram
now, migrating from them ..." made it seem as if you were responding to a
post that went missing that mentioned Nildram.

I'll get my coat ...

:P

Could be that the people who download DVDs (which ISTR may be not quite
legal) are a little reticent about complaining that the new Ts&Cs might
hinder them?

Given that some 'warez' jockies may be hiding behind the Linux ISO argument,
I suspect that a service offering that will allow you to download Linux ISOs
without extra charge will still cause problems to those running P2P servers.

This doesn't invalidate the argument that IF you wish to download Linux ISOs
(which I do) then the current proposed caps may not be sufficient.

I can understand (though regret) the need for some kind of capping given the
economics of service provision.

I don't think the low caps currently being proposed are realistic for many
users.

There is also the issue of 'next generation' services over Broadband.

With a link speed of 1Mbit/sec or higher then streaming video (video on
demand, Broadband TV etc.) could become a realistic service. At 8Mbit/sec
you could probably have several programmes coming down the link
simultaneously.

Is this current round of service changes a move by the ISPs to tie up the
transport side of this emerging market by making sure you have to increase
your subscription to them before your service will support new services from
3rd party suppliers?

At the moment if you have cable then you are likely to take TV, phone and
Internet from your cable supplier.

Consider the marketplace if you could get TV, phone and Internet from your
phone supplier.

It would be a shot in the arm for LLU, a scary time for Telewest and NTL,
and a really scary time for $ky!

BT shares might even go up :-)

Cheers
Dave R
