We need to use VPN to allow the boss to connect from home.
I have setup the Vigor 2600 on our small office network, and all
the PC's (roughly 15) can access the internet no problem.

Our BT ADSL is a single dynamic IP account. I have set up an
account at https://www.dyndns.org/ and am using DirectUpdate
to make sure the Vigor 2600 knows our BT IP address. At home
last night but I was unable to connect to the office. I still
use Win98se, but the boss' PC has WinXP Pro, although I've
havent tried it from his PC yet.

I'm new to routers and broadband in general, and still quite
new to LAN's, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Well one thing's for sure - you have a fair bit of knowledge to get
this far! From an absolute newbie on this subject, can VPN be used
as a peer to peer or is there a need for a server?

Dont know. The VPN on the Draytrek device is supposed to work
independantly of any server. Our network is running on a Windows
Server 2003, but I cant imagine it not working on a peer to peer
set up.

It can work fine though the "single dynamic IP account" was a
mistake amd has made your life more difficult.

So why on earth aren't you using a company that knows how to do this?
For people that do this for a living it would have been a half day job to
connect you to an appropriate service and get everything set up correctly.

VPN works fine over a single IP, it's the fact that it's dynamic
that makes your life trickier. It can still be done though using
services like dyndns.org but if this is for business it seems daft
to add that extra level of complexity when you can get ADSL
services with static IPs, probably for the same price you are
paying now or less.

The Draytek UK site has lots of docs showing how to set up
VPN links from a 2600 to a variety of clients.

Sorry, I don't know what more to suggest. My company would no doubt
be glad to quote to set it up for you.
