with my old dialup (pre broadband) there was an icon (two computers)
on the start bar in the bottom right corner by the time. when you
click on this icon you could not only disconnect but get some info
about bytes sent and received.
is there something similar i can use on my win98 box that will give me
realtime info about the broadband connection.
I have a netgear dg824m adsl wireless router/modem, that gives two
other PCs access to the wan and internet.

NetMeter, DUMeter and a number of other utilities will monitor at the PC
network level - this will include LAN traffic.

PRTG, which relies on SNMP support, can monitor at the router level thereby
excluding LAN traffic. Google says the DG824M does support SNMP, but it also
says it doesn't.

You certainly have that on XP, which shows the Lan or Wan connection
speed etc
Perhaps there's a Win98 Update on microsoft site

Any idea if there is something I can use with my Netgear DM602 to keep an
eye on my VoIP traffic..? I have DU Meter on the PC's but the VoIP is done
with a Sipura SPA-2000 ATA so the traffic never goes near it.

If the DM602 supports SNMP and the ATA traffic passes through it, then PRTG
will be able to give you aggregated traffic data.

Download it and point it at your router's IP - it'll soon complain if the
router doesn't respond to its SNMP probes.
