I had RH9 with 2.4.20-8 and upgraded (including all the prerequisits) to
2.6.3 (yes I have kept the old one )

I have installed module-init-tools 0.9.14 (to avoid the QM_MODULES: function
not implemented error - the translation of /etc/modules.conf to
/etc/modprobe.conf has failed - can I create it manually?).

The problem is that my kernel is not loading ANY modules, without any errors
in dmesg.

If I do lsmod I get an empty list.

So I have no ethernet, no USB and no PPP!!!!

Am i doing something really wrong?

Thank you all for your time,
Theophanis

Ok, not very experienced in this, but check the articles in the link below,
I think it may help you:

http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT4389927951.html
http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT3855888078.html

Especially the topic "Migrating Existing Kernel Configurations", where he
deals with going from the 2.4 kernel to a 2.6-based distribution. But both
articles are important. Suggest you read them with attention.

Good luck and keep us informed of your progress - we're really interested in
the outcome!

Please follow the directions provided here to create the
/etc/modprobe.conf file; http://thomer.com/linux/migrate-to-2.6.html

A small quote from the above link;
You need a new modprobe, insmod, rmmod, etc. If you don't, you'll get
errors about ``QM_MODULES: Function not implemented.''

And use the latest module-init-tools-3.0-pre9.tar.gz (or .bz2) available
here; ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...rusty/modules/

Because you don' have a working /etc/modprob.conf file.
