pcnet32 is piece of software that the kernel needs to be able to
communicate to the outside world. I'm having great difficulties with this
driver in cooperation with my NIC (Network Interface card).
I suggest you check e.g. with the ETHERNET-HOWTO list on the Internet to see
if pcnet32 is the only available driver for your NIC.
