Hi,

A friend of mine has had a bit of a problem with his broadband
connection and I wonder if anyone out there can help me and him.

He was using his PC fine with no problems on broadband connecting to
AOL via his BT Voyager USB Modem.

One day he came home from work and the phones weren't working. BT
fixed the problem and the phones were working, but somehow the modem
will not connect. The data light doesn't light up and the diagnostic
run says that there is no signal. He's got 3 filters that came with
the PC setup and he's also bought another from PC World. There is
still no connection. Could there be a problem with the modem?? The
power light is on but no signal is detected. Could the modem have been
affected by the phone line problem?? Could BT have messed up the
connection? Once DSL is enabled is there a possibility that it could
get turned off again??

Any help would be appreciated. In the meantime I will try to borrow a
modem etc. of someone who's connection is working to see if there's a
problem with the modem.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Type of modem may be a good place to start, but it is perfectly feasible for
the fix which the BT engineer put in place could have blocked/stopped or
even disconnected your broadband depending on what he did.
