I had a working system with an ethernet card.
But the performance was very very lousy (0.1 % of 100Mb)
So I was told to try to put my card in another PCI slot.
So I did.
WIN(* recognizes new hardware after a reboot. I installed
the driver that came with the Ethernet card (again), and
the system asks for the WIN98 CD. I put it in the drive.
I configured TCP/IP and NETBEUI for the ethernet card
again, and was expecting it all worked again.
But....

the network had still the same lousy performance, and
somehow my modem connection was messed up.
I can can still phone in, but as soon as an application
tries something to do with the modem connection, this
application crashes.

Another problem is that my login window (Client for MS
networks) does not popup also anymore.

Finally I tried to reinstall WIN98, but that only made it
worse. Now my ethernet card also stopped working.

What to do?
