A dialup connection does not work the same way as a LAN connection. On
a LAN, many operations (such as name resolution and browsing) use
broadcasts. A dialup connection does not carry broadcasts. It just gives you
an IP connection.
Set up a user account on the "server" machine for the username of the
"client" machine. (To access files, you use the username and password of the
original login, not the one you use to set up the connection).
When you connect, do a "net view \\servername" from a command prompt. This
should show you what files are available on the machine. You can set up a
connection to a shared file using "net use \\servername\filename" or "net
use z: \\servername\filename" if you want to map it to a drive letter on the
client.
