You state that the Zyxel modem works when a PC is connected to the back.
Therefore, I assume that the modem is properly configured for PPPOE and that the PC is getting its IP address via the modem's built-in DHCP server. When you connect the WRT54G (instead of the PC) to the modem, configure it for DHCP (not PPPOE). Your Zyxel modem's DHCP server will assign the WRT54G an IP address and the WRT54G, in turn, will assign IP addresses to the computers that connect to it. Therefore, you also need to turn on the WRT54G's built-in DHCP server. -Yves "Ger" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:PSbob.3201$(E-Mail Removed)... > I am looking please for help with this problem. > I bought a Linksys WRT54G in order to have DSL > access for my two desktop and three laptop PCs. > Wireless for the laptops. Yves, thank you for your help.

NOW, in the last hour, I have connected the Zyxel modem into one of the four lan ports on the 54G (NOT into the 'internet' port). I have set the Default Gateway on the client PCs to point to the modem and IT SEEMS TO WORK !!!! :-))) I have both a wired and a wireless PC accessing the internet. I am using the settings you suggest above (54G set to Automatic - DHCP) This is magic. Wish I understood what is going on !!!! This "internet port" on the 54G is something special? Weird. You may want to reset the WRT54G to the factory defaults by holding
down the reset button on the back for 10 seconds. The main difference between the WAN and the 4 LAN ports is that NAT only affects the LAN and wireless ports and DHCP messages originating from the WRT54G should only reach the LAN and wireless ports. If you connect the modem to a LAN port, theoretically, it could also serve as a DHCP server for the devices that are connected to the other LAN ports. How do you configure the Zyxel modem (i.e. set up PPPOE and the built-in DHCP server)? When you set up the modem and connect a PC directly to the modem, as long as the DHCP server is enabled, you should not manually specify any settings on the PC (no IP address, gateway, DNS, etc.). Open up a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" (or "winipcfg" if not running XP/2000) and post the results (although, feel free to remove any data that might needlessly identify you such as the hardware address, etc.). When you connect the router to the modem, how do you configure it? Your router should be set to function in "Gateway" mode (not "Router" mode), which is the default setting anyway. It should also obtain its IP address via the modem's DHCP server (also a default setting). There is a configuration window on the router that allows you to view the router's assigned IP address, gateway, DNS, etc. settings that it should have obtained from the modem. Compare these to what your PC was assigned when it was connected to the modem. Most of the values should be identical (probably everything except for the IP address). Finally, since your currently configuration appears to be working, try using "ipconfig /all" on the devices before making changes. Also, no addresses (IP, gateway, DNS, etc.) should be manually entered for the connected computers (DNS servers can, however, be an exception); all should get their assignments via DHCP. -Yves "Ger" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:7Xfob.3246$(E-Mail Removed)... > Yves, thank you for your help. > > "Yves Konigshofer" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message > news:bnrobu$duu$(E-Mail Removed)... > > You state that the Zyxel modem works when a PC is connected to the back. > > Therefore, I assume that the modem is properly configured for PPPOE and > that > > the PC is getting its IP address via the modem's built-in DHCP server. > > YES > > > > > When you connect the WRT54G (instead of the PC) to the modem, configure it > > for DHCP (not PPPOE). hi
i have a zyxel p645 modem bridge and wrt54g linksys and it all works fine on speakeasy / covad 1500/768k adsl setup , setup your p645 router as bridge and it will work fine if you set it up on line and open remote login i can log in and help you to set it up as bridge dusan Ger wrote: > I am looking please for help with this problem. > I bought a Linksys WRT54G in order to have DSL > access for my two desktop and three laptop PCs. > Wireless for the laptops. Thanks Dusan. Can you tell me here how to do the bridge config?
I say this, NOT because I don't want you logged on to my modem, BUT because the DSL line is in use for my work and arranging a time window when it would be on the new Zyxel rig would be difficult (but possible). I live in Ireland so there is also a time difference? If you can describe how to do it, please do. Else I'll pick a window over the weekend maybe and open up the modem. Let me know. You may also want to check the instructions in the www.linksys.com knowledge
