Hi everybody,
I know that modem problems are largely discussed here, but even if I
read many posts in this and other ng I was not able to find a
solution.
I give you some coordinates:

OS: Mandrake 9.2
modem: US Robotics (which is not a win modem)

The modem is perfectly detected.
The connection starts but as soon as it is established the modem hang
up.
PPP give the exit error number 16. (it simply means that modem hang
up!!!)

Any advice?
Gabe

Tell us how you launch pppd and how you connect with the modem. If you
do that with script(s) then post exact copies of them.

Add the pppd debug option to /etc/options. If you use chat to dial-out
with the modem then add the -v chat option. Configure the line below
in /etc/syslog.conf

local2.*;*.=debug;*.=notice /var/log/ppp-debug.log

and restart syslogd with "kill -HUP $(pidof syslogd)" to get syslogd
to reread the file.

Start pppd as usual and post an exact copy of the ppp-debug.log,
including timestamps. If you don't use chat then still add the debug
option as above, configure whatever dial-out pppd frontend you use
for maximum verbosity, start pppd, and post the ppp-debug.log as
described above.
